1. Overview
Parsimo has adopted the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) to standardize cost and usage data across multi-cloud environments and AI workloads.
The adoption of FOCUS enables Parsimo to:
- Normalize cost and usage data from AWS, Azure, and (upcoming) GCP
- Provide consistent cost attribution and reporting across services, accounts, and business units
- Enable interoperability with external FinOps tools and datasets
- Support import, export, and transformation of FOCUS-compliant datasets
Parsimo integrates FOCUS into its internal data platform, allowing customers to analyze and optimize cloud and AI spending in a unified and standardized format.
2. Scope of FOCUS Adoption
2.1 Data Ingestion
Parsimo ingests cloud billing and usage data including:
- AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR)
- Azure Cost Management exports
- (Planned) GCP Billing Export
These datasets are mapped into Parsimo's internal data lake and transformed into FOCUS-aligned schemas.
2.2 Data Normalization
Parsimo applies normalization logic to align raw billing data with FOCUS fields, including:
- Resource identifiers
- Service and product categorization
- Usage quantities and units
- Cost metrics (amortized, unblended, effective cost)
- Account, region, and provider dimensions
2.3 FOCUS Dataset Production
Parsimo produces FOCUS-aligned datasets that:
- Follow standardized cost and usage schema structures
- Include consistent dimensions across cloud providers
- Support time-series cost analysis
- Enable downstream analytics and reporting
2.4 Data Export
Parsimo enables customers to export FOCUS-aligned datasets via API access, data warehouse integrations, and MCP server interfaces for AI-driven querying.
2.5 Data Consumption
FOCUS datasets within Parsimo are used by:
- Cost visualization dashboards
- FinOps optimization modules
- AI-powered natural language querying (via LLM + MCP integration)

4. Conformance Gap Report
Parsimo has evaluated its current implementation against the FOCUS specification and identified the following gaps and roadmap items:
4.1 Partial Field Coverage
Gap: Some advanced or optional FOCUS fields are not yet fully implemented across all cloud providers.
Impact: Limited coverage for certain edge-case cost scenarios or specialized services.
Plan: Expand schema coverage to include all recommended FOCUS fields and prioritize high-impact fields for multi-cloud consistency.
4.2 GCP Support (In Progress)
Gap: FOCUS normalization for GCP billing data is currently under development.
Impact: FOCUS datasets are fully supported for AWS and Azure, but not yet for GCP.
Plan: Complete GCP billing ingestion and normalization and align GCP export with FOCUS schema.
4.3 Real-time Data Alignment
Gap: FOCUS datasets are generated based on batch-processed billing data (e.g., CUR), not real-time streams.
Impact: Short delay in reflecting near real-time cost changes.
Plan: Introduce near real-time ingestion pipeline and enhance streaming data capabilities.
4.4 Custom Tag Normalization
Gap: Customer-defined tags may vary in structure and naming conventions.
Impact: Inconsistent cost attribution across teams and business units.
Plan: Introduce tag standardization and mapping engine and provide best practice enforcement for tagging.
5. Roadmap
Parsimo is actively investing in expanding FOCUS support:
Full multi-cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) FOCUS alignment
Enhanced cost attribution (team, service, workload level)
Real-time cost data processing
Open API for FOCUS dataset interoperability
6. Conclusion
Parsimo has adopted the FOCUS specification as a foundational standard for cost and usage data management.
Through its implementation, Parsimo enables unified multi-cloud cost visibility, accurate cost attribution, scalable FinOps operations and AI-driven cost analysis. Parsimo continues to evolve its FOCUS support to align with industry standards and emerging cloud and AI cost models.
